Pelvic Organ Prolapse

What is Pelvic Organ Prolapse?

Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) occurs when the pelvic organs—such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum—descend from their normal position and bulge into the vaginal canal. This condition often results from weakened pelvic floor muscles and connective tissues, which can be caused by factors like childbirth, aging, hormonal changes, obesity, or chronic coughing. Symptoms may include pelvic pressure, discomfort, urinary issues, or a visible bulge. While it can affect the quality of life, various treatment options, including physical therapy, pessaries, and surgery, can help manage or resolve the condition. Early intervention and awareness are critical to effective care.
